How to get to Chania

By plane

Domestic flights from Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (ATH) and Thessaloniki International Airport “Makedonia” (SKG) to Chania International Airport “Ioannis Daskalogiannis” (CHQ) operate on a daily basis.

During the summer, direct charter flights connect many European cities (e.g., London, Helsinki, Frankfurt, Paris, Vienna, Brussels, Warsaw) with Chania.

Chania airport is located 14km away from the city.  Bus routes lasting about 25 minutes connect the airport with the centre. Chania can also be reached by taxi or rental car.

Flying to Heraklion International Airport “Nikos Kazantzakis” (HER) in Crete could be an alternative. Chania can then be reached by a bus, with the journey lasting about 3 hours.

By ferry

Ferries depart daily from Piraeus port of Athens to Souda port of Chania. Souda port is located about 7km away from the city centre. They usually depart late in the evening and travel during the night. An overnight trip with ANEK lines takes about 9 hours (arriving at about 5.30am). Daytime trips are expected to be available during the summer (usually from July). Public bus routes connect Souda port with Chania. They last about 25 minutes.

Ferries from Piraeus port to Heraklion port run every day. An overnight/daytime trip with MINOAN lines takes about 9 hours.

Economy deck seats, air-type seats and cabins are available for these journeys.
